Here follows an account of the dangers of oestrogen meeting testosterone
I am, I like to think, a relatively laid back parent, not overly prone to anger.
However on one memorable occasion I saw bright red.
I think looking back it may have been an excessive release of oestrogen! What ever caused it I definitely acted out of character.
I cannot cope with “floordrobes”
These are very common in my teenagers bedrooms. They consist of a bedroom floor, strewn with clothes. Clean clothes left where they fell, clothes worn just once, lying there, and clothes washed and ironed by me, dumped there.
On one memorable occasion I flipped.
My son at the time was 15. A very amiable teenager. However very untidy.
I asked many times for him to sort out his “floordrobe”.
No action was taken.
Then I asked again.
Perhaps he too became victim to a hormone surge, in the form of testosterone!
Whatever caused it, my previously amiable teen roared at me, using some choice words he had picked up on his journey through life to date.
I said nothing.
Inside I blew a fuse.
A million fireworks exploded in my head, all in different directions!
Quietly I went upstairs.
I entered his bedroom.
I opened the dormer window fully.
With every ounce of fury within me I picked up every last item I could find on the floor, and I flung it out the window.
It took awhile.
Some items made it to the ground.
Sadly some remained stuck on the roof.(Luckily his bedroom was at the back of the house)
When all were gone, I looked around his now tidy room.
I was exhausted after my temper fueled throwing, but exhilarated.
I looked out the window and smiled at my handiwork. There looked to be twice as much there as I thought.
I then calmly left the room, left the house and went shopping.
I received a text later with the words “psycho” on it. I smiled.I guessed he had got my message.
Ever since, “floordrobes” have featured less in my childrens bedrooms.
And when I say something is making me mad they tend to act quite quickly!
Sometimes extreme parenting works!!

sometimes desperate measures are needed to get folk’s attention – esp teenagers !
Ye, think I have the whole neighborhoods attention now.
WOW, you’re one scary hellfire chick of a mamma! *Respect*. Well done you!
Thanks. Its not often I promise!
Oh goodness, I wish, wish, wish, I’d done that. Brilliant.
Hmm. Still could I suppose, though for a mid-twenty-yr-old it might be too late.
I too have a twenty plus year old. Maybe a small bit too late!
Tempting to try though. If I do, I shall blame you. He he!
Awww laughing here esp at the one word text you got, yes job well done me thinks!
It’s been fun, I think. 🙂
