Dear friend…

A few days ago a great friend of mine waved her youngest off on a wonderful adventure. I know as she did so she sent a little piece of herself with her, for I don’t believe it is possible for a mother to really say goodbye.

So my friend as you get used to not having your little one around I just wanted to let you know that I and others are thinking of you.
I have no doubt your ‘all grown up baby’, will indeed wear her ruby shoes and will most certainly ‘always stay home in her heart’.
This is for you and your young adventurer.

In case anyone would like the words here they are.

Love and Happiness.

Here’s a wishing well
Here’s a penny for
Any thought it is
That makes you smile
Every diamond dream
Everything that brings
Love and happiness
To your life

Here’s a rabbit’s food
Take it when you go
So you’ll always know
You’re safe from harm
Wear your ruby shoes
When you’re far away
So you’ll always stay
Home in your heart

You will always have a lucky star
That shines because of what you are
Even in the deepest dark
Because your aim is true
And if I could only have one wish
Darling, then I would be this
Love and happiness for you

Here’s a spinning wheel
Use it once you’ve learned
There’s a way to turn
The straw to gold
Here’s a rosary
Count on every bead
With a prayer to keep
The hope you hold

You will always have a lucky star
That shines because of what you are
Even in the deepest dark
Because your aim is true
And if I could only have one wish
Darling, then it would be this
Love and happiness for you
And if I could only have one wish
Darling, then it would be this
Love and happiness for you

  1. I hope your friend’s youngest will have a great big, exciting adventure and come back home safely and with a load of interesting stories to share. Incidentally, Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris is a combination I’d never had thought of in a million years, but it actually works very well.

    1. Thank you. I’m sure she will.
I agree about Mark Knopfler and Emmylou, their combined voices are beautiful. I love this song and facing the disappearance of my own young fella, I’ve been singing it loads recently. Although he’s not too impressed with the ‘wear your ruby shoes’ request. πŸ™‚

  2. I love both these artistes. I have them singing together on Mark’s Private Investigations album but I’ve never heard this one till now. Tear-jerker! My heart and thoughts go out to your friend and you, Tric, all we mums (and dads) as our kids do what must be done. They’ll always have home when they need it.x
