Happy Birthday to me.

This day last year “My thoughts on a page” was born.

I remember so well that very first day when I wrote my first post.
I thought the web was a huge place and I would be relatively anonymous.

When the little wordpress star lit up I had no idea what it was.
On discovering someone had read what I wrote I was mortified.photo credit: <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/nzdave/756880176/">(nz)dave</a> via <a href="http://photopin.com">photopin</a> <a href="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/2.0/">cc</a>
How did they find it I wondered?
After a while I relaxed and laughed aloud that anyone would be bothered reading.
Now a year later I love to see it light up, but I have never quite got used to people reading what I write.

When I began, in the back of my mind if I’m honest, I thought I’d learn the trade,
then I’d start another site having learned so much, and try to make money.
However over time things changed. I should have learned and moved on,
but instead, I fell head over heals in love with writing.

Today, as I think back to my earlier posts I smile.
I have learned an awful lot over the year.
I know what a reblog is.
I understand wordpress and can post photos.
I can link, and save, schedule (but never quite get the time and date right!) and change settings.
I understand widgets and have even changed my theme.

However all those things are only by the ways.
What I have really got from blogging I cannot articulate.
I have posted 348 posts in the year, and writing each one was a joy.
I have shared so much of my life, but it has been much easier to do than I thought
I have “met” so many people online, who have been a great support to me.
You have supported me with this blog, resulting in my making the Irish Blog Award final five,
and with my writing, telling me I can and encouraging me to “go for it”,
It has been a very difficult year personally, but you my “friends” here online,
really helped me through the ups and terrible downs of Dans illness and loss.

We have had some great laughs here, and through my “freshly impressed”, and series of letters,
I have been able to give back a little and get to know you all more.

So here’s to the year ahead.
Last year I thought I’d make a few bucks writing a blog.
This year I just want to write.
Where that will take me I don’t know but I hope next year I’ll be blogging about it.photo credit: <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/angegreene/91017809/">angegreene</a> via <a href="http://photopin.com">photopin</a> <a href="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/2.0/">cc</a>

Thanks to the 900 who signed up for my blog,
but special thanks to the 200-300 who really read it each day.
A huge thanks to my facebook followers, all 61 of you!
You have saved me from my childrens ridicule.
Thanks to all the girls and fellas over on Irish Parenting bloggers,
I have had a great time getting to know you all.
Thanks to those who comment so regularly, you know who you are.
I so enjoy our contact, and am happy to consider you “friends”.

So nothing for it now but to sign off.
One whole year has ended, and a new one begins.

I think that surely deserves more than one glass of wine.

        1. Aw thanks. I’ve missed your posts. Saw the latest but was rushing through. Get them on email, so semi stalking you.

        2. LOL yeah, yesterdays was long. Sorry about that. I just had a lot to say. I’m trying to post something every couple of weeks. I don’t want to over do it anymore. But I also want to not let it go. I’ve met so many of you that I feel like I know as much as you can in this sort of atmosphere. ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. You’re very welcome! Long may you continue to blog!!!!!
It’s lovely to have met you too ๐Ÿ™‚

        1. Regardless I’ll be there. I was so new last year, very much like a rabbit caught in the headlights. I’ll be way more relaxed this year. ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. You are one of the few that I do reply too. Maybe it’s because I know that you will respond. Others that I have responded on never reply so I quit commenting and just click the like button on theirs.

        1. I can never understand how someone can post something and never reply to a comment. Ah well, I’m too chatty to let that happen. Glad you stuck with me.

  1. Happy Blog Birthday to you! That’s a great milestone. You’ve thanked us, but I also want to thank you. Thank you for your many wonderful and enlightening posts. Thank you for your honesty and sincerity that you exhibit in each of yours posts. I’ve enjoyed your blog immensely.

On a side note – I have a letter weighing on my mind. Are you still accepting them?

    1. Thank you. I’m blushing here! I really appreciate your comment.
I am definitely still accepting letters. I have quite a number in so there is no rush, it looks like this “series of letters” will run and run. I’d love you to send it but why not just write it anyway?

      1. You are very welcome. I’ve thought about just putting the letter on my blog, but thought it would be nice to give you another to add to your series. It may be a while before I send it anyway. It’s going to require some emotional strength to put it together.

        1. I wrote a letter a while ago too. I still haven’t posted it on my blog, but writing it has allowed me think now of all the lovely letters I would like to write, which were overshadowed by that other one.

      1. I suspect lots of words. Lots of laughing. Thinking. Crying. And head scratching trying to figure out what that one meant. Heaven knows I’ve written a post or two that’s been confusing.

Why are you embarrassed? I’ve not seen anything to cringe over? ๐Ÿ™‚

        1. Clink clink. We began around the same time. Yours was the way I thought I would go. What an eejit I was. But each to their own, I’m happy. I hope you can switch off all those misery guts who say your a troll, and you can enjoy all you have achieved.
