Look around you as you walk about.
What do you see?
Do you see people who are happy?
In love?
Remember those days?
Are they driving nice cars?
Living in nice houses?
Do you suppose they all have good jobs?
Can you see them with their children?
Laughing together.
Sharing family life?
The more you look at others,
the more it seems that everyone is living a good life.
A better life than yours.
It makes you wonder.
Is this it?
Is this as good as it gets?
In your world life is not so rosy.
You struggle through every day,
keeping your worries to yourself.
The car is making a noise,
you know is code for,
hand over more cash.
The mortgage is due,
and the exterior of the house needs painting.
You worked hard all your life,
and yet is this the best this job can offer you?
This job you gave up seeing your children for?
The same children who loved you unconditionally when they were young,
and who would now rather your conversations,
were limited to discussing how much allowance they are due?
Why is every one else s life so much better than yours?
Is it though?
Because if most who read this can identify with it,
who are those perfect people we see every day?
They are living the lives we wish we had,
driving the cars we would love to own,
living in the houses we wished we lived in,
being the family we would like to be.
They are living our dream life.
However they are not real.
Each of those perfect people,
are but a figment of our imagination.
In reality they look at you,
with your job,
driving your car,
laughing with your family,
and living in your home,
and they see exactly what you envy in their lives.
So perhaps we just need to sit back,
look around,
and see our lives as others do,
and acknowledge that just maybe,
we don’t really have it too bad.

Yes, my life is good 🙂
I envied and Irishman once, but I thought he was Italian. He must have had an Italian ancestor at least as he was very handsome.
Yes we Irish have it all. We may look around and be envious for a time, but then we just know that the best craic is in Ireland.:) Italians do too much shouting.
I think this is one of those “if everyone threw their troubles in a pile, and you could pick other troubles, most people would pick up their own troubles” kind of thing, isn’t it?? I often envy families, or couples that I see, even though I know “coupledom” isn’t necessarily all it’s cracked up to be!! lol
Too true. Many is the day coupledom has one too many in it!
wise words, tric !
I spend half my life envying everyone else so I should know! 🙂
stop looking out, and just look in. smile in the mirror and be happy with what you see. )
You are one wise lady! I do try but some days I am envious I must admit.
thanks, but not at all, i’ve just lived life and somehow gotten through using the trial and error method. we all have the envious days, we’re human.
