My thoughts on a page.

While holidaying in heaven recently, (Allihies, West Cork) yer man and myself went to visit Dzoghen Beara.

It’s a buddhist retreat centre between Castletownbere and Allihies. We’d not been there before. Well, that’s not exactly true. We drove into it about fourteen years ago and on getting out of the car were struck by the peaceful silence. Unfortunately, moments later our four young children tumbled out after us, arguing and running wild. I quickly shoved them back in and drove away. So, in reality, it was almost our first time visiting.

It really is a haven of peace, in the most glorious setting and so welcoming to visitors. We wandered about and ate in their small coffee shop with views to die for, after which I went for a spy around the shop area. There was so much that caught my eye, but I settled on a beautiful small sun catcher, for someone who needs to find sunshine at the moment.

I also picked up a pretty painted love heart stone with the message, ‘Be Happy’ on it. This I put on my mum and dad’s grave, to remind us as we stand there missing them, that this is what they would wish for us.

Another couple of love heart, precious stones made their way into my bag, and finally a card saying, “When in doubt… Breathe In, Breathe Out.” I thought it excellent advice.

In truth, our time in Allihies is like attending a retreat. We enjoy time at the beach, walk miles over the hills, drink in the views and finish the day drinking in the local pub singing along to whatever session is on. It really is time out of life. The human equivalent of recharging my batteries and freeing my soul.
