Where did it all start?
This love of writing,
this love of reading?
Was it sitting on my mums lap,
listening to her lilting voice,
as she read a bedtime story to my younger brother and I?
Or was it the day I read,
“The lion the witch and the wardrobe”,
and discovered the adventure that had enthralled me,
for quite a number of nights,
had taken place in a moment?
Or maybe it was the day,
my Dad showed me a book he had got as a present?
A beautiful red leather bound book,
filled with poetry,
which at the time,
was so far beyond my understanding.
I still devoured every word,
and loved the touch, feel and smell of that book.
Maybe it was the conversations about language,
which I enjoyed so much with my Dad?
Descriptive language,correct punctuation,
and the joy of words especially adjectives.
Or maybe it is a part of me?
Something within my genes which cannot be ignored.
As real as a skin condition which must be scratched.
What ever the origin,
I know that for me, it is as necessary as breathing,
that every day I read,
and every day I write.

‘and every day I write’
and you make a bloody good job of it ! 😆
🙂 Thank you. I aim to please!
Pleasing you do well!
🙂 Thank you.
Beautiful and can resonate with you for your passion to write and read thank you.
Thank you. I think a lot of us suffer from that itch which must be scratched!
I tend to understand myself and others better if i write my thoughts down. Expressing myself clears a lot of ‘mess’ in my head and makes it all settle nice and easy.
And something with writing is addictive. The power of the words. Its not really me who is writing, its almost like the great pieces write themselves 🙂
Keep on writing!
I know just what you mean. At times it is only when I re read that I really see and understand what I posted. My fingers just take off and as you say it just writes itself.
I feel the same! I love the written word!! 🙂
I can see that. It can be very healing too.
Lovely post. I enjoy your writing 🙂
Thanks. I enjoyed writing this one.
nice post! I love reading too (and writing) and the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was/is one of my favourite books.
Thank you. I have been away on holidays for the past ten days so apologies for not replying earlier.
I have read to all my children in the hope that they too may love reading. Sadly I am not sure it means as much to them as it did me.
